The Oxford City Stars are absolutely thrilled to welcome back last season’s most improved player, Tom Stephens.
And it is with great excitement, that Oxfordshire’s Premier Ice Hockey Team announce that Tom will once again grace the ice in Oxpens Road. Last season we felt Tom had a breakout year and we couldn't be happier to have him back in our line-up.
During the course of last season with us, Tom proved himself to be an invaluable asset to the team. He really developed his game and became one of the most trusted defence in Simon Andersons squad. He still has lots of growth to go and we are excited to see his development continue this year with us once again.
He has consistently shown what it means to wear the yellow jersey proudly, and his presence on the ice has grown massively. His return will reinforce our aspirations for success and he is another vital part of last season squad that we wanted to retain and build around.
Tom had this to say: “I am really grateful to Simon & Shane for the opportunity they gave me last year. Being involved in key moments all season with top line minutes and special teams opportunities which have really helped my development.
When Shane asked me if I wanted to come back it was an easy decision- the club itself is making great progress , the dressing room has a really positive atmosphere and I love Sunday nights at Oxpens playing in front of such a fantastic set of fans.”
Shane Moore, Director of Hockey Operations added: “Tom far exceeded our expectations last season, and really showed professionalism throughout. He thrived with us and was able to log good minutes, and really improved throughout the course of the year. It was a pleasure to watch him and I’m pleased we were able to bring him back again this season. Again, like Miller and Abbott, he was a crucial part of the rebuild and the exact type of guy we want to rebuild the club around.”
