Stars Swoop to Sign Mayoh

Oxford City Stars have completed the signing of teenager Ethan Mayoh.

The D-Man spent last season at the Blackburn Hawks and the Altrincham Aces.

Mayoh, 19, is an exciting prospect and has also appeared for Swindon Wildcats 2. Born in Bolton Mayoh started his ice hockey career at Manchester Phoenix before spending four years at the Okanagan ice hockey academy in Swindon.

His ability earned him regular selections in the South West conference teams.

Mayoh said: “I’m excited to have signed for Oxford, it’s a great club that is well respected. Oxford has a great supportive fan base who provide a great atmosphere at games.

“I’m grateful to Dean for giving me this opportunity to take the next step in my hockey career and developing my game more. I’m really looking forward to starting and getting back on the ice.”

Head Coach Dean Birrell said: “Ethan joins us highly recommended by several coaches in the game.

“He has had a great up-bringing in hockey and is quick, a good skater and strong on the puck. Ethan is another player who had interest from other clubs, and I’m pleased he has signed for Oxford.

“The opportunity to come and develop his game and be part of the first team was a big factor. I’m looking forward to working with Ethan and helping develop his game.

“This is a great opportunity for him to really make his mark in the senior game and become part of what we’re building. The young players we are bringing into Oxford is quite exciting, they’re quick, confident and ambitious.

“The platform we’re giving them to play regularly at a senior level is so important not just for the Stars, but for the British game generally.”

You can help back the club by sponsoring Ethan’s home and away jerseys via our popular Own and Loan programme. Sponsor the home or away jersey for £100 – or both for £150.

And new this year – you can have your name (personal name or company name) on the player’s jersey. These are the jerseys Ethan will play in – you would own and loan them to Ethan and receive them at the end of the season.
