stars buzzing

Oxford City Stars captain Dax Hedges said the team “were buzzing” after chalking up their first win of the season.

The Stars won 3-1 at home against second placed Solent Devils on Sunday.

Chris Cooke, Joe Edwards and Matt Lawday scored the goals – but it was a hard working 60-minute team performance that earned the well-deserved victory. The final hooter sparked joyous scenes at Oxpens and the team are now looking to kick on.

Captain Dax Hedges said: “Finally, we got the win we’ve been looking for.

“It was a great game of hockey from the first whistle to the last. The boys were buzzing in the room to get the monkey off our backs. We back to it this week in training and looking to carry it on into the weekend.”

Head coach Dean Birrell said: “The players deserved the win, they made themselves accountable for their good and bad points and made it work.

“We turned it around in the third period when we have been known to tire. Our pressure on Solent was relentless at times. We go into our next game with a positive buzz.”

The Stars are away at MK Thunder on Sunday with a 6.45pm face off.
