Oxfordshire's Premier Ice Hockey Club, The Oxford City Stars have made a major splash this off-season with the acquisition of talented defenceman Harry Hatfield. At just 26 years old, the Aldershot native has a rich pedigree from well respected clubs around the southern leagues, including Guildford Phoenix and Slough Jets.
Harry Joins the City Stars this season, after deciding to step away from the NIHL1 the past few years , but has continued to play and he possesses the physical attributes and skills necessary to compete at a high level this coming season. Hatfield's playing style is characterised by his speed, agility, and excellent hockey sense, which allow him to create scoring opportunities for himself and his teammates. Head Coach Simon Anderson stated: "Harry is a superb addition and strengthens our D core immensely and we are extremely lucky to have him pull on the Stars jersey for next season.
Talking to him during the summer it was clear he is a team first guy and really wants to help improve us in all areas both on and off the ice.Speaking to other players about him, every conversation was about how great a player and person he is and that is the traits we have been looking for in all of our players for next season.
Having played in Slough for a number of years, it's obvious to me that Harry will bring a very high hockey IQ, have good puck skills and also pride himself on his conditioning. He plays a smart two way game and is not afraid to play gritty and stick up for his team mates if necessary. I'm looking forward to seeing Harry pull on our yellow jersey come September."
When asked about he felt to be joining the Oxford City Stars this season, Harry said: "Stars fans, it is going to be a pleasure to pull on your jersey this coming season.
After Simon contacted me regarding signing with the club in his efforts to strengthen his blue line it was an extremely easy decision for me. After playing at Oxpen's Road against Oxford many times they have always come across as an extremely well run club, always putting their players and fans first.
After a couple of years away from the league due to work commitments being in the Army – I am now out and ready to go! I look forward to competing again, in what is set to be a great season for the stars with the recruitment being done on and off the ice for next season."
It was clear to Stars coaching staff that strengthening the D-core was the number one priority for this coming season, to improve their chances of success, and its clear from the signings so far that they are out to dramatically revamp the defence for the 23/24 season.
The addition of Hatfield undoubtedly strengthens the team and provides a boost to the overall team dynamics. His arrival brings a new dimension to the Stars' lines, and his skill set will complement the existing talent on the roster.
The signing of Hatfield clearly represents the club's ambition to make a statement in the upcoming season. It should excites the fans, who are eagerly awaiting the start of the season in September!
Harry's jerseys are now available for Own and Loan on the website, which is just £100 for one shirt, or £150 for both!
