moore steps up

Oxford City Stars has appointed Shane Moore as head of hockey operations.

Shane will oversee ice hockey operations and support the club’s board with off-ice matters. He will work closely with the directors, coaches and players to help develop the club.

The club’s board described it as a “significant senior appointment” that will help fuel the club’s progression.

Shane has been helping the club this season as an assistant first-team coach, but his new permanent role, which starts with immediate effect, will see him become an integral part of the club’s senior management team.

The retired D-Man enjoyed a distinguished ice hockey career in the EPIHL at clubs including Bracknell Bees and Swindon Wildcats. His last season as a player was at Oxford.

Shane said: “Oxford is a fantastic club that I fell in love with during my last season as a player. I’ve enjoyed helping on the coaching side this season and am pleased to have agreed a permanent key role at the club. The directors have created a strong platform for us to build on and I’m excited by their vision for the club and can’t wait to help drive the Stars forward.”

Shane will act as a bridge between the playing department and the board and support the club across the first team operations, including recruitment and player liaison. Plus, commercial and marketing.

Stars’ director Greig Box Turnbull said: “This is a significant and exciting appointment for the club. Shane is highly respected by everyone not just at the Stars but throughout ice hockey and it’s a big appointment for us. We know Shane will add tremendous value across all aspects of the club and we’re looking forward to working more closely together.

“We have worked hard these past few years to stabilise the club and make it sustainable and we’ve done that amid the pandemic. It now means we have the right platform to progress and become stronger and Shane will be a big part of our journey.”

Stars’ director Jo Mundy added: “This is a new and pivotal role at the club and will help us achieve our vision to become stronger year on year. Shane is highly experienced, brings great qualities to the club and is an excellent permanent addition to our senior team.

“This is the first of a number of appointments we plan to make in the coming weeks and months designed to strengthen and take the club forward.”
