Loyal fan will be sorely missed

It is with deep sadness we inform you of the passing of a loyal and ardent Stars supporter, Robert (Bob) Butler.

Bob had been a devoted follower of the club since 1986. He passed away recently from cancer and his funeral will take place on Tuesday.

He was extremely passionate about ice hockey and the Stars. For many years watched games with Bob fellow supporter and great friend John Cartwright who sadly passed away in 2015, sat above the team benches cheering on the players. Latterly Bob stood at the top of the stairs at homes games. Bob also often travelled away on the team coach.

On behalf of everyone at the Stars we pass on our condolences to Bob’s family and friends. He will be sorely missed.

Club ambassador and former player James Clarke said: “Bob was a great guy and loved his hockey and the Stars. We lived in the same village and would always have a good natter whenever we saw each other. He used to give me lifts to games and presentation evenings sometimes, that was the sort of guy he was – always happy to help. I’ve so many fond memories and we’ll all miss him.”

Devoted to helping and supporting men across Oxfordshire diagnosed with Prostate cancer, Bob was a promoter and advocate of Oxfordshire Prostate Cancer Support Group (OPCSG) a charity dear to Bob’s heart.
