Oxford City Stars are thrilled to announce that Josh Abbott has officially re-signed with the team for the 23/34 season.
With immense excitement, Oxfords Premier Ice Hockey Team can confirm that Abbo will be donning the yellow jersey once again. Having put up over a point per game last season, after stepping up from the NIHL 2, he was a vital signing for Simon Anderson’s rebuild. Josh was noticed by a lot of teams after his transition up the leagues last season, and rightly so. After an unsettled season where he never really had settled line-mates, he still managed to pick up the Best Forward award and the City Stars end of season awards.
But it wasn’t just his numbers that earned him that award. The coaching staff have praised his professionalism since joining the Stars, and it was felt his attitude and commitment was something to start rebuilding the team around. His unwavering commitment, leadership qualities, and natural talent has made him a fan favourite and a crucial part of our squad.
The decision to re-sign Abbo underscores our club's commitment to building a formidable team and moving up the table in the upcoming season. We firmly believe that Josh has only just started, and that he has a lot more to come this coming season.
We would like to express our gratitude to Josh for choosing to continue his career with us. His decision demonstrates his belief in our shared vision of building ice hockey in Oxford. Josh had this to say: “I’m looking forward to returning to Oxford for a second year. After a rebuild last year and so many new signings, the boys really started to come together towards the end of the season. I’m excited to see what’s to come as the new core continue to gel, plus we will add some further quality and depth to the team. I can see what Simon is trying to build and I’m delighted to be a part of it. There are big things to come from this team and I hope I can contribute to a successful season. Can’t wait to get going in September!”” Coach Simon Anderson added: “I am so happy that Josh has committed to another season in a City Stars jersey. It goes without saying that he had other clubs after him, so to get his signature makes me a very happy coach.
I thought Josh was exceptional for us last season. He had to really adapt his game, coming from Guildford where they were pretty offensively dominant to a team where he had to play in different systems and where he had to play at times a more defensive game. I thought he rose to the challenge and it made him a more well-rounded player.
Offensively he had to at times create his own offence and it was tough for him with his line changing almost weekly at times, making it difficult to get any kind of chemistry.
I know Josh is excited to get going and I'm looking forward to working with him again”
Please join us in celebrating the re-signing of Abbo as we eagerly anticipate an incredible. If you are interested in Sponsoring Josh, his Own and Loan Jerseys are now available on the club website for just £100 for one, or £150 for the pair.
