Dynamic Centerman Travis Penny Joins the Oxford City Stars for 23/24

The Oxford City Stars, the Premier Ice Hockey Team of Oxfordshire, proudly announces the signing of Travis Penny, a young and exciting center, for the upcoming 23/24 season. Penny joins the Stars from the National Leagues' Basingstoke Bison, having split duties between the National league and NIHL 2 with the Basingstoke Buffalo. In 36 games across the two teams last season, he managed to put up 9 goals and 13 assists, whilst staying out of the penalty box all year.

Travis , who spent all his junior career in Basingstoke, has established himself as a solid 2 way center on the ice. With his high level of defensive abilities and being strong on the draw, Penny has proven to be a consistent and reliable player throughout his career. The Oxford City Stars organisation is thrilled to have him donning the iconic yellow jersey for the upcoming season. Penny's arrival promises to bolster the Stars' lineup and he will be familiar with players such as Marcus Mitchell who he played with last season.

Travis Penny expressed his enthusiasm about joining the Oxford City Stars, stating, "I’m looking forward to this season to play for a great club and a strong roster. I’m really thankful to Simon and Shane for this great opportunity, I can’t wait to play at NIHL 1 in front of great fans. I will do my best and give 100% to the team to ensure the team gets the results they want and make the stars fans proud."

Head Coach Simon Anderson expressed his delight with the acquisition, stating, "Trav came highly recommended to me by a couple of coaches and players in the past few months. Last season I felt we did not win enough in the face-off circle and Travis comes to us as a natural centreman, which will hopefully make us stronger down the middle throughout the lineup. He also brings a decent skill set, some speed and a confidence about him when carrying the puck through ice with the ability to make good on ice decisions.

I'm excited to give Travis this opportunity to develop his game with us and I know he cannot wait to get going."

Travis Penny's addition to the team aligns with the Oxford City Stars' commitment to assembling a competitive, talented, young roster capable of challenging for top honors in the league this season. It is clear to see the team's determination to continue raising the bar and providing fans with exhilarating ice hockey action at Oxpens Road.

The Oxford City Stars organisation welcomes Travis Penny with open arms and looks forward to witnessing his impact on the ice throughout the 23/24 season. Stay tuned for further announcements as the team prepares to embark on an exciting journey towards success. Jerseys are now available for Own and Loan on the website, which is just £100 for one shirt, or £150 for both!
