Oxford City Stars will play Coventry NIHL Blaze in a challenger match double-header weekend next month.

The Stars will play at Coventry on Saturday September 4th with a 6.30pm face off and at home the following day with a 6.15pm face off.

It will be fans first opportunity to watch live ice hockey for 18 months and to see the new Stars’ squad in action ahead of the full 2021/22 season.

And to kick-start the weekend curtain raiser the Stars will host a pre-season supporters’ BBQ at Littlemore Rugby Club ahead of the matches. Supporters are invited to join us for the get-together on Friday September 3rd.

Members of the Supporters’ Club can join a Q&A with head coach Dean Birrell at 6pm and all fans are welcome from 7pm for a BBQ and drinks. You will be able to mingle with coaches, players and directors at the event.

Tickets for the BBQ are £2 and will serve as a 50/50 ticket – a draw will take place on the night and half the ticket

sales will be given to the winning ticket and half to the club. Pre-bookings will help us plan catering.

Dean Birrell said: “We’re looking forward to the challenge matches, it will provide us with a decent weekend of action to prepare for the season. Playing Coventry provides our fans with a different fixture and we’d encourage as many people as possible to come to the matches to back the team. Thank you to Sean Alderson and everyone at Coventry for their support in making the weekend happen.

“We’re also looking forward to the BBQ, it’s an opportunity for everyone to come together ahead of the season as a community and a club. The season is fast approaching now and we’ll all need to pull together to keep building the club.”
